TUESDAY 3
In the old camp. Times lively. Plenty to eat & drink. Also plenty of women in camp. Times very lively. Nothing transpiring worthy of note. Wether fair with a high wind.

WEDNESDAY 4
Started for the Regt. at 7 A.M. Arrived at 1 P.M. Times lively. Weather fair mild & quite warm.

THURSDAY 5
Roll call at 4 A.M. Marched at sunrise. Went 2 miles south of Ringold & then marched back to Ringold. Turned over our Enfield & drew springfield rifles. Times lively. Weather clear and very warm. A secoy returned to the regt.

FRIDAY 6
In camp, near Ringold, Ga. Times lively. Wrote a letter to Caty Beechly and something else in her favor. Weather fair & hot. Start for Tunnel Hill in the morning.

SATURDAY 7
Roll call at 3 A.M. Marched 5:30 A.M. Skirmishing at 6:30 from line of battle at 8:30 A.M. commenced shelling the Rebs at 9 A.M. Got to Tunnel Hill at 12:00 M. Advanced about one mile & then went into camp went on picket Cletes & Jo

SUNDAY 8
On picket they threw a few shells at Rebs at 8 A.M. Skirmishes start out 10 A.M. Relvd. from post at 4 P.M. Started to charge the hill at 9 P.M. E. Fuller J. Vanness with baggae charded the hill without any loss. Saw E. Sickle Howard Hooker & Davis. Times lively. Weather hot. Went into camp sun set.

MONDAY 9
Roll call 5 A.M. Warm & foggy. Canoning on our right. 6:30 skirmishing on our left with cannoning also. Sk-ng in front 11 A.M. Heavy skirmishing 1 P.M. heavy ca-dng. Rebs replying 5 P.M. went out on line 6 P.M. heavily engaged in our front 8 men wounded.

TUESDAY 10
In camp near Tunnel Hill. Roll call 5:30 skirmishing in front 7 A.M. Canoning on left & front. 1:30 skirmishing on right heavy canoning this P.M. Rec’vd letter from Reuben. Times lively. Weather cloudy with rain on patroll tonight.

WEDNESDAY 11
In camp A.M. skirmishing along the line very heavy canoning & severe skirmishing. Times very lively. Weather cloudy with rain & quite cold. Rec-vd a letter from sarah Beechly of Waterloo, Iowa.

THURSDAY 12
Roll call 4:30 A.M. Marched at 6 to reenforce McPherson. A good candy at Buzzard Roost. Went into camp at dark to get some supper. Marched after 1 hours rest until 1 A.M. Weather fair & cool. Times lively. Dalton evacuated.

FRIDAY 13
Got up at day light & went to the Reg’t. 7 A.M. got some breakfast seen Elijah Tilton, Bill Clayten & S.S. Richardson got to the Reg’t Howard took 12 cannon fighting in front at 4:45 P.M. Marched on the line. Weather clear & hot.

SATURDAY 14
Got up at day light moved out on and layed there until 1 P.M. The fight then became general & very spirited & lasted until dark. Heavy loss on our side. Weather warm some rain.

SUNDAY 15
The fight opened very early this morning & became very spirited lasting until dark. Gained some on the Rebs today Sc. Times very lively. Weathe cloudy cool. Diabled some of the enemys guns.

MONDAY 16
Rebs all gone this morning. Marched back to our knapsacks. Rested a few minutes & then started for Rome. Got to camp a dark. Weather fine & warm. Country nice roads & times good.

TUESDAY 17
Got up at 4:30 A.M. Marched at 6. Cos. A & F advanced guard stopped at noon & took dinner in a door yard. Times lively. Had a fight with Herds. E.R. Taylor wounded. Weather cloudy & rainy.

WEDNESDAY 18
Got up at daylight. Put on our equipments & got break. Went into camp at 8 A.M. Took possession of Rome. Times lively. Weather warm & cloudy.

THURSDAY 19
In camp washed 2 shirts & wrote two letters to Waterloo & one to Ogle Stat. Ill. Canonading on our left. Times lively. Weather clear & very hot. Kingston taken.

FRIDAY 20
In camp. Rumor that Richmond is taken. Drew one days rations of corn mean. Cans. Come into Rome. Times lively. Weather very hot.

SATURDAY 21
In camp layed out a camp & put up our shantys & bunks. Times good. Weather fair & very hot.

In camp. Inspection on fatigue. Drawed rations at Brigd. Tla. Ins. Went to church. Times good. Weather clear & warm.

A.M. in camp. Nothing transpiring P.M. 4 o’clock started on march. Went through Rome. Camped about 1 mile from Rome. Times good. Weather cloudy & hot.

Got up at daylight and got ready for a march. Went 10 miles & then got dinner rested 1 ½ hours. Times very good. Weather variable with some rain.

WEDNESDAY 25
Started on to march at six A.M. Got dinner at one P.M. 6 P.M. heavy cannonading in our front & left. Times lively. Weather hot & raining.

THURSDAY 26
Got up at daylight & got breakfast & started on a march at 6 A.M. Marched 2 miles & then rested until 11 A.M. Counter marched to old camp & then took another road to Dallas at 3:30 P.M. Cdng. In front. Times lively. Weather cloudy & hot.

FRIDAY 27
Got up at daylight & drew rations & got breakfast. Received a letter from M.A.Y. & one from M.B. 5:30 A.M. fight opened with spirit lying in line of battle until 6:15 P.M. Our Regt. made connsicance to the left. Weather clear & hot.

SATURDAY 28
Got breakfast a little after daylight. Went out on the line where the 4th Corps is & then marched to the right filling a vacant gap. Not a great deal of fighting today. Weather warm.

SUNDAY 29
Went back to the brigade. A very little cannonading on our left and some skirmishing in our front. The Rebs are building a fort in our front. Weather fair & warm.

MONDAY 30
Lying in fortification today. Comparatively quite along the line. Rebs made 7 charges on our works last night on our right & left flanks being repulsed at every charge. Seen Gen. Sherman. Weather fair & hot.

TUESDAY 31
On the skirmishing line today. The Rebs are shelling our breastworks & the skirmish line. A charge on our right. A good deal of cdng. By the Rebs. Weather fair & hot.

JUNE 1864

WEDNESDAY 1
Relieved from the skirmish line at 3 A.M. Went to 3 Poplass & got breakfast and dinner. Division moved to left. Rebs in our breastwork. Relieved some other Div. A good deal of skirm. On the line. Weather fair & hot.

THURSDAY 2
Lying close behind breastworks a good deal of skirmishing in our front as well as sharp shooting P.M. very heavy rain & thunder Lightning Struck a tree 150 yds. From our Regt. 1 Man killed in Co. F.

FRIDAY 3
Behind breastworks a good deal of firing on the line. Some cannonading on the right & left of Us. We go on the Skirmishing at 8 tonight. Weather variable with some rain.

SATURDAY 4
Relieved from picket at 4 A.M. Got our breakfast at daylight. Started at Sunrise to rejoin our corps got into camp at 12 M heavy Skirm. & cdng. In front. Weather quite rainy.

SUNDAY 5
Got our breakfast a little after day light & moved out on the front line A.M. A little rainy Rebs lit out. All quite this evening. Weather fair & warm.

MONDAY 6
Got up at 3 o’clock & got our breakfast with orders to march at day light. Started about 8. Stopped at 11 to get dinner resumed our march at one to get to camp at 5 P.M. Some cdng. Weather hot & c.

TUESDAY 7
In camp today. Received one letter from D. Bone from M.B.G. from B.E.Y. one from M. Cross date of March 25th. Nothing going on consequently all quite times Good Weather variable with some rain. A horse cutting some shines.

WEDNESDAY 8
In camp. Read Any Mannering and mended My pants. Nothing Transpiring worthy of note. Everything going on Smoothly. Times good. Weather mild with some rain.

THURSDAY 9
In camp seen F.J. Brown. Wrote two letters one to M. & the other to B. Yorty. Had my hair cut. Stewed Some Sweet Apples & c. Times Lively. Weather variable with Some rain.

Some Skirmishing in front got up at 3 o’clock & got breakfast got ready to march at 5 A.M. Went on fatigue at Hd. Qrs. Marched at 8 A.M. Went into camp at 3 P.M. Weather very heavy & rain.

SATURDAY 11
Got up at 3:30 with orders to march at daylight. Started at 10 A.M. Went into camp at 12 M. Started again at Sunset. Some cannonading along the line. Times lively. Weather cloudy with heavy rain.

SUNDAY 12
In camp near the R. Road. Skirmishing in front and cannonading on our Right and left. Drew two days rations. Times rather hard. Weather very rainy.

MONDAY 13
In camp near the R.R. Skirmishing on our left & some cannonading the Co. Went out on a Scout W.M. Robison and David Wagoner came back to the Regt. Weather cool & Rainy.

TUESDAY 14
Went on Picket & then advanced our line came back at 5 P.M. Got our things & drew Rations & then went out on the line. Leut. Gen. Polk of the rebel army was killed. Wether fair & warm.

WEDNESDAY 15
Got up at 4 A.M. layed in the Rear of some Breastworks Until 1 P.M. heavy cad-ng in our front & left. Our Reg’t went out on the line. 1 man killed & six wounded. Weather variable.

THURSDAY 16
Lying in camp drew 3 days rations heavy skirmishing along the line today Also some cannonading on our right & left. Weather variable.

FRIDAY 17
In camp near the R.R. heavy canndg. On our right. The Rebs mad a charge on our left which caused heavy musketing and can-dg. Rebel deserters coming into daily. Weat-cloudy & rain.

SATURDAY 18
Lying in camp this A.M. heavy cannonading on our right lasting until after dark 6 P.M. Struck tents & moved out for a fight but fell back to Breastwork. Weather very rainy.

SUNDAY 19
Got up and found the Rebels fallen back. We struck our tents at 10 A.M. The Rebs on Kenesaw yet heavy Skirmishing along the whole line. Terrific cnds. on our right front & left AG Pirate Alabama Sunk by the Kearshed at Winslow Point. Weather very rainy.

MONDAY 20
In camp at the foot of Kenesaw Mountain more terrific cannonading I never hard also heavy Skirmishing along the line drew 3 days Rations. Weather variable with Rain.

TUESDAY 21

In camp & sick. Rebs are shelling with great spirit One man slightly wounded in our Co. Our men do not reply much. Weather fair & warm 8 P.M. going on picket.

Went out on the line at daylight Rebs began to shell at 9:30 A.M. Keeping it up for 2 ½ hours. Our men are answering with great viggor 1 P.M. Rebs began shelling again causing our men to retalliate. It being the hardest cannonading I ever heard J. Vanness Wounded. I am quite sick. Weat. very hot.

7 A.M. reported to the Doctor got some Salts & Quinine fell better everything very quite only a few Shots exchanged in Our front Received a letter from M.M. Harteman. Weather dry & Hot.

In camp a good deal of cannonading & some Skirmishing along the line 2 men killed. Received a letter from Catherine Beechly got orders to march after dark. Weather clear & very hot.

Started at 1:30 A.M. & marched to the right arriving at Sunrise. Saw a fight in the 121 O. Regt. Went to the creek and had a good wash. Had a good sleep sick with Dysentary. Weather clear & hot.

8 A.M. Started out for a big fight with cateens only. This is my birthday. Made a charge on the Rebs. Works being repulsed Our co. lost one killed – 5 wounded. Sick of war. Weather variable but very hot.

In camp Went up to the 80th Ind. Buried Fredric Travor he was shot in the head. A good deal of Skirmishing in front & cdng. on our left. Weather clear & very hot.

Rebs gone again got up at daylight took after them Our division to about fifty one fires today. We are 9 ½ miles north of Atlanta I could see the Steeples of the buildings. Our Co., & A & J are on the skirmishline on picket. Weather hot.

Made an advance to within 2 ½ miles of Atlanta & forified can see the Bldgs in the city heavy cannonading on our left. Gen. McPhearson is killed the Rail R 4 miles north of city. Weather very hot.

Left Lafayette at 6 A.M. Rome marched until 11 A.M. and then got dinner took up our line of march at 1 P.M. for Broomtown Valley going a northerly direction arrived in the Valley at 4 P.M. Weather hot.
